The partners of the i4sea project, coordinated by Cosmos Business Systems, successfully completed the final day of the project entitled "Monitoring and Analysis of Marine Traffic: Innovative ICT and Analysis Models", organized online by Blue during the week Research & Innovation Days, 19-23 April.

The project is part of the Action "RESEARCH - CREATE - INNOVATE" of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation from which it is co-financed.

The main points of the project and the needs that led to the formulation and investigation of a series of scientific challenges as well as the research results that emerged from this process were presented by the project teams of the partners.

Also, the scientific methods used were presented and the architecture of the system created and the pilot applications developed were demonstrated.

The project aims to create a platform for the collection and analysis of large volumes of marine traffic data, as well as spatial, environmental and meteorological data, for the monitoring of marine areas.

The vision of the project is the efficient and fast processing, integration and analysis of data in order to create:

a) "Combined real - time business image" and

b) "Combined historical picture" of monitoring data in the marine environment.

Also, during the Blue Research & Innovation Days week, the project partners participated in the organization "Hackathon Boosting Blue Economy, with modern technological solutions", which was scientifically supported by well-known academic and research institutions of the country, and among its sponsors were and the i4Sea project.

During the two-day hackathon the participants competed in the following four challenges:

Detecting a boat navigation pattern of a set of boats that have similar characteristics in terms of the area in which they are located and the mode of movement

Predicting the future position of vessels involving the design and implementation of machine learning solutions

Online image annotation tool for underwater images

Submarine cable route design

Team # 7 was named first team, followed by Marine Analyst, and Steam third. The three (3) winning teams were awarded and received respective prizes.

Apart from Cosmos Business Systems, the project was attended by the Research Center "ATHENS", the Data Laboratory of the University of Piraeus and ELKETHE
