Cosmos Business Systems, in collaboration with its subsidiary Cosmos Consulting, was selected as the contractor, following an open tender, for a project of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) concerning the development of an integrated information system for the production of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
The project is part of Hellenic Statistical Authority’s strategic plan for the digital upgrade of critical statistical processes, with the aim of improving the accuracy, transparency, and speed of production of official statistical data used at both national and European level.
The project involves the development of a modern, integrated information system for the production of CPI and HICP indices, with a time frame of thirteen (13) months for implementation. The implemented system supports the processes of data collection, processing, control, and analysis, ensuring a high level of functionality, security, and scalability.
More specifically, the national CPI refers to the whole country and investigates, on a monthly basis, the prices of goods and services offered for purchase by private households to satisfy their consumption needs and measures changes in the retail prices of goods and services that make up the so-called “household basket.” The total number of cities in which the survey is conducted is 27.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is a consumer price index (CPI) calculated according to a common European approach, which aims to produce results that are comparable at the European level. It measures changes over time in the prices of consumer goods and services purchased by households. Due to the common methodology, the HICPs of European countries can be directly compared with each other.
