The Cloud was once the answer to every IT problem faced by an organization or business. It was new, it was the future, it was trendy. Today it is a source of questions, doubts and second thoughts. The “hybrid cloud” is heard more and more often. The Greek public was not ready for the cloud, is it ready for a hybrid model?
Today’s business needs with the increasing volume of information, which in most cases is not easily predictable, creates a daily headache for IT Managers. Realizing the aggressively increasing demands of organizations and users, IT Managers are looking for solutions that will give them the ability to expand data storage space according to their needs.
Hybrid Cloud – What it is not
There is a widespread belief that Hybrid Cloud is simply a mix between hardware installed on the company’s premises and storing part of the data in a public cloud. However, a business server is not the same as a private cloud and cannot be part of a hybrid. A hybrid cloud, by definition, is a solution where a business is partly in the cloud and partly in an “on premises” state with on-site Servers.
Moving towards a truly hybrid strategy
The cloud is not a “one-size-fits-all solution” for all business challenges, and any hybrid strategy must clearly define what the most urgent priorities are that a business wants to achieve. So, in addition to the important question of deploying a private or public cloud that will shape the hybrid environment, businesses must carefully consider their strategic needs. For example, they must plan the exact applications they want to support in the hybrid cloud and then analyze which cloud – public or private – is best suited for their business needs.
The private cloud, for example, provides much greater control and security, making it the best place to store an organization’s sensitive information, while the lower cost and economies of scale provided by the public cloud make it more suitable for intensive but less critical business purposes.
The ultimate goal is for each enterprise to use Hybrid cloud services, which will satisfy its strategic IT goals and not use them because it has to follow a trend.
